Getting the latest forecast for Norfolk, Virginia…

THE STORY BEHIND THE FIT

Weather advice,
with a little style.

Forecast Fits turns the day's forecast into a quick campus outfit idea and a few practical reminders.

Made by

Jack Lepien, with development assistance from Claude Code.

Weather data

Weather data by Open-Meteo.com, using its live Forecast and Geocoding APIs. Weather values are shown in US customary units.

This is an educational prototype. Open-Meteo's free API terms allow non-commercial use only; a clothing-brand promotion must use a paid plan or a provider whose terms permit commercial use. Forecast accuracy and continuous availability are not guaranteed.

How recommendations work

The selected day's forecast high sets the base layer: cold below 45°F, mildly cold 45–59°F, comfortable 60–74°F, mildly hot 75–84°F, and hot at 85°F or above. An experimental light-layer reminder appears when the high is at least 60°F and the low is at or below 55°F. These are app heuristics, not peer-validated, official clothing, or medical thresholds. Rain gear appears when precipitation probability is 40% or higher or precipitation is forecast; snow forecasts instead use winter clothing and traction reminders. Sun protection appears at UV 3 or higher, hydration at 85°F or higher, and thunderstorms trigger an indoor/limit-outdoor reminder. These thresholds are conservative app rules informed by general guidance from the CDC, WHO UV Index guidance, and National Weather Service safety resources.

The hourly travel tip shows the forecast's lowest-probability two-hour rain window. It is not a guarantee of dry or safe conditions.

Your privacy

No account, analytics, or tracking is used. The browser stores only the most recently chosen location so it can be reused. Device location is requested only when you press “Use my location.” Coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to retrieve weather; your browser also connects directly to that service, which may receive ordinary connection data such as your IP address. No location history is kept by this app.
